Generating Group Tourism Business?
You Can do it Too!

Check out the Campaign: Events & Meetings, Reunions, Sports!

Are you in a social organization? Have a reunion coming up-family, social, school or otherwise? Is there a wedding on the horizon? Are you part of a business organization that has retreats or annual meetings? Involved in sporting groups or tournaments?

Most residents don't think about family reunions or out of town social gatherings as generating business, but in the tourism industry, groups coming to town mean business for the community and an economic feather in our cap.

The bureau's sales team can help planners block rooms or find meeting rooms for guests at local hotel properties. From an event/meeting standpoint, there are venues parish-wide, and the inventory continues to grow as several historic buildings in downtown Lake Charles are now available.  So, once you have chosen the host hotel and venue, the bureau can help you with information on fun things for your group to do while in town.

From the great outdoors and the glitz and glamour of the casinos to festivals and food, there is a lot to see and do on any size budget.
Exciting new tour/transportation options like airboat rides, helicopter rides and carriage rides have added unique ways to experience the area. Imagine a quaint carriage ride through the Charpentier Historic District or along Lakeshore Drive. And, in downtown Lake Charles, the music scene comes alive with blocks of music venues and nightlife.

Also, the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road and the development of the all-new Southwest Louisiana Boudin Trail enhance group experiences on the road. Groups can be treated to educational exhibits on the area's ecosystems and interactive displays of the wetlands and Cajun culture from talking, animated mannequins at the Cameron Prairie Visitors Center. Or, have your group enjoy in carnival season - year round!

The Mardi Gras Museum, which features the largest display of Mardi Gras costumes in the world, showcases talking, animated characters that tell the story of Mardi Gras in Southwest Louisiana. Numerous other museums like the Imperial Calcasieu MuseumDeQuincy Railroad Museum, the Henning Cultural Center or the recently remodeled Children's Museum and art galleries around the area all offer options for groups.

When you add in just the right blend of food and music on top of everything to see and do, you find a destination that is irresistible for groups. If you need help on planning a group visit, call our sales team at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau at (337) 436-9588.
