Description:
This Southwest Louisiana tradition will make you stop in your tracks! Festival goers can take a step back in time at the annual Railroad Days Festival, celebrating the history of the railroad where in 1897, the tracks of two rail companies converged at the present-day Dequincy.
Attendees can take tours of the historic Railroad Museum built in 1923 or enter the Railroad Days Queens’ Pageant. And this festival really does have something for the whole family, with the Bows & Barks Doggie Pageant. Other festivities include a parade, look-a-like contest, 5K run, model train show, old timers reunion, the Railroad Idol Contest and don’t forget about all the live entertainment that is sure to get you up and off your feet in no time! This year’s featured entertainer is Country Music star, Mark Chesnutt! Celebrating 29 years, this locals’ favorite won’t be losing steam for some time!
An official Southwest Louisiana Bicentennial Event, festival hours are Thursday, April 12 from 5-11 p.m., Friday, April 13 from 3-11 p.m. and Saturday, April 14 from 8:30 a.m. - midnight.
The Louisiana Railroad Days has been chosen as a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society for the second quarter of 2012.
