Media FAQ
What can I expect the weather to be like?
The weather is mild in Southwest Louisiana. In the summer months, during the day, it can climb into the 90s, so be sure to bring light clothing. Afternoon showers are frequent during the late spring and early summer months, so a good rule is to always be prepared with an umbrella. The winter months vary, but if it's cold, it's usually a damp cold, so a scarf might help keep the chill out. Most of the year, it's comfortable, so you don't have to pack a ton of coats or sweaters, leaving room for souvenirs!
What is transportation like in Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana?
We have a new regional airport with flights daily coming into Lake Charles from Houston through Unitedand Dallas through American Airlines. Once here, you can easily rent a car at the airport. That's the best bet for getting around town if you are not on a tour being hosted by the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB, in which case, transportation is provided.
What kind of assistance can I expect from the bureau?
We can provide you with story ideas, suggested itineraries, sources or points of contact, pictures, facts and other materials to provide a baseline for your story. Upon availability, the bureau will only provide complimentary rooms for commissioned work. If the writer does not have commissioned work, it is up to the individual property to decide if services will be complimentary of at a reduced price. Depending on your assignment and circumstances, we can help with restaurant and dining experiences, step on guides and transportation.
What is the cancellation policy?
Deviations or cancellations from planned itineraries must be made 48 hours in advance. This includes lodging and special interest appointments with local personalities. The writer or media professional will be held responsible for payment of lodging or other commitments if not given proper notice.
Can I participate in a Mardi Gras, culinary or other media tours with other writers?
Most major media tours are planned a year in advance, and the spots are filled leading up to the event. For consideration, contact Megan Hartman, senior marketing manager, at mhartman@visitlakecharles.org for special media tour programs being offered. Consideration for inclusion will depend upon your past work, current assignment(s) and professional deadlines.
