Mardi Gras in Lake Charles-
Make a glittering entrance into the New Year with glitzy flowing costumes of Mardi Gras splendor, parades on land and sea, mambo, Zydeco and gumbo during the second largest Mardi Gras in Louisiana-complete with the ear to ear smiles and warm hospitality. If you like feathers and frills or good Cajun music and food, you can join in on the events of your choice on Mardi Gras weekend and Fat Tuesday!
Mardi Gras Museum-
In preserving the history of Mardi Gras in Southwest Louisiana, a six-room museum has been set up as a tribute, with the largest costume display in the South. The rooms display the history of the festival, the Captains' Den, costume design, King cakes and the marvel of 12th Night. Also featured are ballroom costumes, a Mardi Gras parade display, including a parade float that everyone can climb aboard. Punch and king cake are served for tours.
Charpentier Historic District-
The first decade of the twentieth century was the golden afternoon of the Lake Charles lumber boom. Discover the romantic history of Lake Charles, involving tales of pirates and buried treasure, beginning with the first French settlers in the 1760s. View neighborhoods on the National Register of Historic Places and be awed by Victorian mansions, cottages, gas-lit homes - and the occasional ghost story!
The Royal Gala-
The Cinderella moment of the season captures audiences with its enchanting Mardi Gras splendor. The gala showcases this season's full courts of 43 krewes with kings, queens, royal dukes and duchesses, captains, courtesans and jesters, followed by a night of music and dancing.
Krewe of Krewes Parade Party-
Fat Tuesday peaks with the spectacular Krewe of Krewes Parade that winds through downtown Lake Charles-with hundreds of krewe floats, costumes, beads and excitement for everyone. No one walks away without a bag of beads! A private parade party on the parade route is presented by the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau, including delicious cuisine, cool beverages and hot Cajun music!
