Acadian Geneaology
The Southwest Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Library branch of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library will open at 10 a.m. There will be displays about Louisiana Acadian food, music and entertainment, customs and culture as well as regions in which they lived. Genealogy Library staff will be available to assist with a limited amount of research.
A short opening presentation is tentatively scheduled at 10:30 a.m. A presentation by Stephen White, internationally acclaimed genealogist and author of books about the Acadians, is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. The room will close at 5 p.m. However, the Southwest Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Library at 411 Pujo Street will be open until 8 p.m.
Genealogy Schedule
10:00 a.m. - The room opens. Displays about Louisiana Acadian food, music and entertainment, customs and culture, regions they lived in, etc will be set up on tables. At least one laptop will be available for accessing the library's website. Dot Veillon, chair of the Reunion Committee, will also have tables or displays in the room.
10:30 - 11:00 a.m. - Short presentation about the Acadians in Louisiana by local historian or Genealogy Staff.
2 p.m. - Presentation by Stephen White
The room will be open for those who want to come in to look at displays, speak to Genealogy Staff about finding local people with same surname, etc.
5 p.m. - The room will close. The Southwest Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Library at 411 Pujo Street will remain open until 8 p.m.
