Lake Charles/SWLA Mardi Gras
Feathers, King Cakes, beads, regalia, floats and parades. Mardi Gras in Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana is family friendly and supersized, being second only to New Orleans with the amount of Mardi Gras krewes joining in on the holiday.
There is a tremendous variety of activities, with the Cajun Extravaganza Gumbo Cook-off, Taste de la Louisiane, royal promenades of all Mardi Gras krewes, Children's Day dedicated to culture and kids, and more. While in town, you can also check out the Mardi Gras Museum, housing the largest display of Mardi Gras costumes in the world, complete with animated characters, the history of king cake, the art of costume making, talking chickens, a float to climb aboard and footage of previous Mardi Gras celebrations.
