2013 Contraband Days Poster
LAKE CHARLES, La. (April 16, 2013)-Celebrating the 56th anniversary of the Contraband Days Louisiana Pirate Festival, the commemorative poster, created by Melinda Antoon, captures the essence of the event with the lights, colors and excitement surrounding Lake Charles' inland lake.
Antoon is known for her versatile watercolors and collage work that feature gulf coast themes. Having also created the 1988 and 2000 posters, 2013 marks her third image for the festival.
"Fireworks are my favorite night sky paint; the ultimate boom-pow-sizzle of color and huge sparkle," said the artist. "You really feel tiny against all that power and beauty, and lucky to be at the Festival!"
This year's image shimmers with the color and playful energy of this great celebration of the water, land, and people of Southwest Louisiana. The poster features a cheery blaze of fireworks over the lake waters, an amazed audience onshore, with an historic flotilla of sailing boats under a full moon and starry sky.
The poster is available for purchase at the Contraband Days office, located at the Lake Charles Civic Center, or by calling 337-436-5508. The purchase price is $39. For more information on Contraband Days Louisiana Pirate Festival, check www.contrabanddays.com.
