LAKE CHARLES, La. (January 2, 2020)—Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana is inviting the community to help them paint the town purple, green and gold!
Entries are now being accepted for the Lighted Boat Parade, Merchants’ Parade, Children’s Parade, Krewe of Omega Parade, Motor Gras Parade, the Second Line Stroll and Jeeps on Parade.
The Lighted Boat Parade will sail at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20. The Merchants’ Parade is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. The 54th annual Krewe of Omega Parade will take place Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. The Children’s Parade will roll at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 23. On Tuesday, Feb. 25 the Second Line Stroll will begin at 1 p.m., Jeeps on Parade will roll at 2 p.m. and the Motor Gras Parade will take place at 3 p.m.
The Merchants’, Children’s and Krewe of Krewes Parades will depart Bord du Lac Drive at the Lake Charles Civic Center and veer left onto Mill Street. Revelers will then turn right onto Ryan Street from Mill Street. The convoys will continue south down Ryan Street to the parades’ end at Sale Road.
The Motor Gras Parade, Second Line Stroll and Jeeps on Parade will depart Mill Street and turn onto Ryan Street. The Second Line Stroll and Jeeps on Parade will travel south down Ryan Street to Sallier Street. The Motor Gras Parade will travel south down Ryan Street to Sale Road.
The Krewe of Omega Parade will start at the Lake Charles Civic Center and go to Broad Street, continuing east on Broad Street to Enterprise. The floats will turn left on Enterprise to Mill Street and take a left on Mill Street back to the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The cost to enter the Merchants’ and Children’s Parades is $55 per float/vehicle, per parade. The Omega Parade entry fee is $10 for floats and trailers, $5 for cars, and marching groups are free. The cost to enter the Motor Gras Parade is $5 per motorcycle and $10 per hot rod or classic. The Second Line Stroll entry fee is $5 per person or $50 per group of 10 or more. The entry fee for Jeeps on Parade is $10 per jeep. Forms and entry fees must be received 72 hours prior to the day of the parade.
The public is invited to watch several other parades taking place during the Carnival season. The Krewe of Barkus Parade will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. And the grand finale, the 41st Anniversary Krewe of Krewes Parade, will be held on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m.
