Bureau to Give Press Tour Featuring
Mardi Gras in Southwest Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, La. (December 18, 2012) - The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau will host 8 travel writers from all over the United States for a Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras press tour set for Saturday, Feb. 9, through Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The visit will give bureau staff the opportunity to promote Calcasieu Parish, while enticing travel writers to include the area in future articles and publications.

While in Southwest Louisiana, the group will tour the Charpentier Historic District, the Mardi Gras Museum at the Central School Arts & Humanities Center, and of course, they will join in the Mardi Gras festivities by testing their bead throwing skills, attending the Royal Gala and participating in an old Cajun tradition of catching a chicken. No trip to Southwest Louisiana would be complete without a feast. The group will be treated to a variety of tastes and treats at local restaurants including the famous Southwest Louisiana Boudin Trail.

Journalists contributing to publications like AAA Horizons, AAA Southern Traveler, American Roads, Boston Globe, Global Traveler, Houston Style Magazine, Que Onda! and Midwest Living will be amongst the writers on the trip.

Press trips like the Mardi Gras tour are an important way for the bureau to get the message out about the attractions and experiences available in Southwest Louisiana. In 2012, more than $8 million worth of free publicity was secured through these efforts. More than $579,000 worth of free publicity was secured featuring Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras events.
