Creole Nature Trail Interpretive Visitor Center to be Constructed in Sulphur

LAKE CHARLES, La. (December 21, 2012)- The continued marketing of the Creole Nature Trail All American Road has led the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau to develop an interpretive visitor center in West Calcasieu Parish, in the City of Sulphur, as the western gateway of the trail.

This center will offer visitors from around the country and the world an opportunity to get a taste of what they can see and do in the area. Interactive hands-on exhibits will showcase the unique estuary system of the Creole Nature Trail All American Road along with area culture. This immersive program experience will be designed to educate visitors and children, while identifying area assets including the best places to spot alligators, view migrating songbirds and enjoy the natural beauty of our area.

"Following Hurricane Rita in 2005, the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road lost one of its most celebrated attractions being the interpretive visitor center located on the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge" said Shelley Johnson, Executive Director of the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau. "The Creole Nature Trail is a unique national treasure. This interpretive center, conveniently located off Interstate 10 along the western gateway to the trail, will help to increase visitation and awareness of the natural wonders of Southwest Louisiana found just over the Texas border."

Positioned at the Gateway of the Creole Nature Trail in Sulphur while expanding visitor services to West Calcasieu Parish in light of the growing West Calcasieu Community Complex, the center will be located at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 1256 (old Highway 27) and Arena Road, just south of the Sulphur/Creole Nature Trail exit on Interstate 10.

As this project is in its infancy, no additional details are available at this time. Area media will be notified as the project progresses.

The mission of the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau is to provide leadership in initiating and coordinating the worldwide marketing of Calcasieu Parish as a highly desirable leisure and convention destination; to solicit and service convention and other group-related business; and to engage in visitor promotions which generate overnight stays in Southwest Louisiana, thereby enhancing and developing the economic fabric of the parish.
