The annual Gingerbread House Contest People's Choice winners were announced Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau's Welcome Center, 1205 N. Lakeshore Drive.
All month, residents and tourists visiting the Welcome Center voted on the People's Choice Awards.
In the Children's Division, visitors and fans selected Sulphur High School's Pro Start Program for their theme, "Alice in Winterland". The creation featured sugar characters of Alice and the Red Queen, candy roses, and a large castle complete with waffle cone towers.
In the Adult Division, the First Federal Bank's Employee Volunteer Group's gingerbread house earned the most votes. The theme for the gingerbread house was "Banking on the Bayou." The house was built on pretzel piers, included several colorful candy decorations and a sugar Santa Claus fishing from the front porch.
The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau would also like to remind the community to participate in the annual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float contest. Simply decorate a traditional cardboard shoebox with items such as glitter, glue, feathers, beads, sequins and more. Register at www.visitlakecharles.org/shoebox.
