Jim Boyer, investment and real estate development professional, was recently appointed to serve on the board of directors of Visit Lake Charles.

A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, Boyer attended college at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, earning a degree in Business Administration and an M.B.A.

After retiring from a 32-year career with Merrill Lynch investment firm, Boyer partnered with Brent Lumpkin to start the real estate development firm of Southland Capital, LLC. The company concentrates on real estate holdings including shopping centers, Marriott hotels, industrial properties, and various other commercial properties. Lumpkin passed away in 2020, and he was serving as a board member of Visit Lake Charles at the time.

“I feel honored to serve on the board of Visit Lake Charles to continue the significant work of my friend and business partner, Brent Lumpkin. Southwest Louisiana is near and dear to my heart, and I know that through the rebuilding and resiliency of Calcasieu Parish, visitors and residents alike will be able to benefit from improvements and new attractions in the future,” said Boyer.

“We are grateful to Jim for committing his time and efforts to the promotion and growth of tourism in Southwest Louisiana. The rebuilding of this area coupled with the resurgence in tourism will make his contributions and ideas invaluable. The staff is eager to work alongside Jim as we further develop Louisiana’s Playground as a desirable place to visit and conduct business,” said Kyle Edmiston, President/CEO of Visit Lake Charles.

Boyer has served on the board of directors of Boys and Girls Village and president of the YMCA board. He was appointed by the Southwest Louisiana Community Foundation as their representative for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation Finance Committee, and he also served on the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church. Boyer, a Diamond sponsor in perpetuity of Ducks Unlimited, currently serves on the board of directors of Lakeside Bank.

The CVB is governed by an 11-member board of directors. Jonathan Ringo, appointed by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, is the chair; Willie Mount, representing the Chamber Southwest, serves as the vice chair, and Nick Zaver, representing the Southwest Louisiana Lodging Association (City of Sulphur) is the secretary/treasurer.
