Santa Claus is coming to town during the annual Light up the Lake Christmas Celebration Saturday, Dec. 7. Beginning at 2 p.m. local groups will join Santa for the journey from Mill Street, south on Ryan, concluding at 7th Street. Lake Charles Toyota/Scion will award prizes for best in floats, marching bands, decorated vehicles and specialty groups.
With the support of Entergy, Santa's Workshop will take place in the Civic Center Exhibition Hall from 3-5:30 p.m. Kids are invited to join in the reindeer games with prizes and gifts as well as arts & crafts, food, activities, story telling, music and much more.
The Community Band Christmas Concert will begin at 3:30p.m. in the Civic Center second floor Mezzanine. Gather around the front lawn at 5 p.m. for more entertainment by the St. Louis Show Band, Gumbeaux Gator, and the Girl Scouts. At 6 p.m. a special guest will help Mayor Randy Roach flip the switch to light up the brilliant ornaments.
Captains are called upon to round up the crew for the annual lighted boat parade at 6:30 p.m. An assortment of boats reflecting the spirit of the season will parade past spectators along the illuminated Lakefront Promenade. Awards will be given for the best decorated boats. At 7:15 p.m. tune into 92.9 The Lake FM for the simulcast music as the fireworks extravaganza will light up the lake.
