Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week May 4 – 12
LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 2, 2019)—The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau (LC/SWLA CVB) is celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week, May 4 – 12. The travel and tourism industry has a powerful impact on Louisiana’s economy and has continued to grow each year. In 2018, the LC/SWLA CVB generated more than 75,000 hotel room night stays resulting in an economic impact of over $732 million for Calcasieu Parish.
“National Travel & Tourism Week is a chance for the hospitality industry to communicate the vital role that tourism has in strengthening communities across the United States. This year, through our ‘Tourism Works’ campaign, the bureau is focusing on partnerships throughout the community, and we invited local ambassadors to share their stories about the importance of everyone supporting one another to accomplish goals. May is also a perfect time for residents to appreciate the attractions and offerings of Southwest Louisiana in hopes that they will gain inspiration to invite friends and family to visit this summer,” said Kyle Edmiston, President/CEO of the LC/SWLA CVB.
Saturday, May 4, the CVB will be highlighting attractions for children from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the Children’s Day celebration at the CVB’s welcome center, 1205 N. Lakeshore Drive. There will be groups with displays and activities for the family to enjoy, including light refreshments and Gumbeaux Gator, Southwest Louisiana’s goodwill ambassador.
Tuesday, May 7, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser will be in Southwest Louisiana, traveling through the area promoting Louisiana Travel’s latest tourism campaign and statistics.
Throughout National Travel & Tourism Week, everyone is invited to visit the CVB’s welcome center in Lake Charles and the CVB’s satellite office located at Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point, 2740 Ruth St. in Sulphur. Every 100th visitor will receive a special gift bag filled with Southwest Louisiana goodies.
