LAKE CHARLES, La. (December 2, 2011)-The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) will be holding the inaugural State Cheer and Dance Championships at the Lake Charles Civic Center this Saturday, Dec. 3 beginning at 9 a.m.  There are 63 schools competing from across the state performing 93 cheer and dance routines in the championship.

With 1,302 competitors, this is the third largest participants' event for LHSAA.  The Sales Department at the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau worked with LHSAA to bring the first time event to Lake Charles.

Louisiana is the only state in the U.S. with a state cheer and dance competition that is a national qualifier for Universal Cheerleaders Association, National Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association and National Dance Association.

The dance awards ceremony will be held at 10:15 a.m.  Junior High cheer awards will be given at 1:15 p.m. and High School cheer awards will be presented at 7:15 p.m.
