LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 17, 2012) - The Louisiana High School Rodeo Association (LHSRA) will be hosting the Louisiana High School & Junior High School Rodeo Finals at the Burton Coliseum Complex June 1-9.  The statewide event is returning to the Burton Coliseum after 12 years.    Prior to 2001, Southwest Louisiana held the rodeo finals for more than 53 years.  With upgrades on the facility and new branding enhancements, the Burton Coliseum Complex is ready to welcome more than 300 contestants from across the state striving to be named champion and qualify for the national finals.

Below are the theme nights and schedule of events:


  • § Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. - "Cowboys, Indians and Buccaneers Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m. - "Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Sunday, June 3 at 11 a.m. - "Red, White & Blue Super Heroes Grand Entry Theme"


  • § Tuesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. - "Twin Night Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Wednesday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. - "Mardi Gras Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Thursday, June 7
  • § 1 p.m. - Fashion Show and Queen's Contest
  • § 6:30 p.m. - "Neon Night and Breast Cancer Awareness Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Friday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. - "Buccaneers Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Saturday, June 9
  • § 7 a.m. - Noon - King of the Pit BBQ Cook-off
  • § 1 p.m. - Alumni Rodeo
  • § 6 p.m. - Queen Presentation
  • § 6:30 p.m. - "Red, White & Blue Grand Entry Theme"
  • § Military Appreciation Night - all members of the military will be able to enter at no charge by showing their military ID
  • § Elected Officials will be recognized

The LHSRA is a charter member of the National High School Rodeo Association, which has a membership of 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia.  There are more than 12,500 6th through 12th graders in the NHSRA.  The top four Louisiana contestants in each event will qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo. and the top four junior high qualifiers will travel to Gallup, N.M. later this summer.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $6 for each performance June 1-2 and June 5-8.  Tickets for June 3 for the short go round of the Junior High School Finals and June 9 for the short go round of the High School Finals are $8.  Armbands may be purchased at the door for all Junior High School performances for $15 and $25 for all High School performances.  Children five and under are admitted free.
