LAKE CHARLES, La. (January 3, 2020)—The official 2020 Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana poster is now available for purchase following its unveiling at the Mardi Gras Kickoff & Poster Reveal Party at Alexander Art Studio, 900 Ryan St #102,held this afternoon.
Local, renowned artist Candice Alexander has created Southwest Louisiana’s official Mardi Gras poster for three consecutive years. The 2020 poster features history, Mardi Gras traditions and Southwest Louisiana’s culture tied together in a significant piece of art. Depicting downtown Lake Charles, the background showcases one of Lake Charles’ most historic buildings, The Charleston Hotel, along with the iconic Phoenix Building. The focal point of the piece is a fun-loving woman enjoying a cold lager coupled with an artistic rendering of the cross-pistols along the railing of the Calcasieu River Bridge. She is adorned with a colorful Mardi Gras mask that highlights elements of the Crying Eagle Brewing Company’s logo. This art celebrates the Lake Area’s Mardi Gras traditions, tying in the history of downtown Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish as well as shining a light on future economic revitalization.
The poster is available in a variety of sizes and additionally is featured on a multitude of specialty items such as T-shirts, coffee mugs, keychains and more. Alexander has partnered with Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana, Inc., the nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating more than 20 community Mardi Gras events and parades each year. She is donating 25 percent of each print sold to the organization to aid in supporting its mission of enhancing the cultural and economic growth of Southwest Louisiana through its annual festival.
