Pro Watercross National Championships held on North Beach on August 28-29

LAKE CHARLES, La. (August 17, 2021)— Visit Lake Charles will host the Pro Watercross National Championships on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29, at the North Beach of Lake Charles.

Watercross is simply motocross on Personal Watercrafts (PWC) or jet skis. Athletes compete on unpredictable liquid tracks varying from oceans to rivers to lakes. Competitors challenge the notion of what is possible on a PWC; utilizing the most advanced equipment and reaching speeds of over 85 mph against a full line of competitors.  Driven by their passion, this sport brings an event that combines adrenaline and pure enjoyment of being on the water.

Pro Watercross and Visit Lake Charles signed a three-year contract to host the championship event in Lake Charles that extends through 2022 due to Covid-related scheduling delays.

“The Pro Watercross National Championship event brings competitors from across the country to showcase their high level of skill. We are grateful for the Lake Charles community coming together to host this event. Our athletes are looking forward to experiencing Southwest Louisiana’s hospitality, culture, food, music, and the great outdoors,” said AJ Handler, CEO/Founder at the Pro Watercross National Tour.

“After such a difficult year in Southwest Louisiana, we are looking forward to an exciting weekend of competition for the Pro Watercross National Championship showcasing the best professional and amateur athletes in the sport. We want to encourage locals and tourists alike to experience this high-energy event and free, family-fun on North Beach,” said Eric Zartler, Visit Lake Charles Sales Director.

Competitors begin practice at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Pro Show at 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. The Pro-Am Championship award ceremony will round out the day. Amateur racing kicks off Sunday at 8:45 a.m. with the Amateur National Championship Award Ceremony closing out the tournament. Registration information for competitors can be found at

Rita’s Creole Family Kitchen, Smokehouse ’36, Gary’s Grub Hub, and Kona Ice food trucks will be available for spectators to purchase food and beverages. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
