Tournament of the Stars Provides Ten Local College Scholarships at Fundraiser
LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 10, 2013)-Tournament of the Stars will hold its annual scholarship fundraiser, Saturday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This year, $8,000 in scholarships will be awarded to ten local high school students from the following schools, Sulphur High School, Barbe High School, St. Louis Catholic High School, Washington-Marion High School and LaGrange High School.
Each year, the fundraiser not only recognizes the students, but it honors an individual who shows dedication and support of higher education, community and family. This year's honoree is Mayor Randy Roach.
A native of Lake Charles and graduate of LaGrange High School, Mayor Roach embodies the spirit of community, family and giving. Mayor Roach served two terms as a State Representative in the Louisiana Legislature, and has served as Mayor of Lake Charles since 2000. He has worked closely with city and parish governments and other agencies to form partnerships and pool resources that benefit the Lake Area and residents.
Entertainment for the evening, sponsored by Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel, will include the legendary City Heat, jazz saxophonist Mickey Smith, Jr. and duo Lerone Rubin and Teka Briscoe. This event is sponsored in part by CITGO, Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel, the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau and Billy Navarre Chevrolet/Cadillac.
Tickets are $50 at the Lake Charles Civic Center box office or online at www.tournamentofthestars.com. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Israel McReynolds Scholarship fund.
