What’s better than unwinding on a Friday evening in the backdrop of the downtown Lake Charles with great music from hot bands drifting into the sunset? How about four Fridays of cool, FREE outdoor concerts?
It’s one of my favorite events – Downtown at Sundown. It’s the perfect mix of cool nightlife, foodie finds, local art and family fun. Set up like a small street – fair, I love walking from art vendor to food truck and then settling in for a fantastic live concert. If the mood is right I’ll drag my hubby to the “dance floor.”
This year’s lineup is smokin’. (As always.) The party kicks off with The Kadillacs, May 19 and continues with Boomerang, May 26; Whiskey South, June 2 and closes out on June 9 with a performance from Geno Delafose.
I have to admit, while the music is hot, my focus is usually on the food vendor menus. With an outstanding variety of downtown restaurants ready to serve, there are also fabulous food trucks and vendors dishing out meals that speak to my soul! Seafood and boudin tacos, hamburgers and onion rings, smoked BBQ ribs, and Chinese fried rice and noodles – it is literally foodie heaven. And course you’ll find some sweet treats – snocones and popsicles are my go-to as the night warms up.
I’ve even got something you history buffs will love! On May 26, right before the concert, the City of Lake Charles Sesquicentennial Committee will unearth a time capsule that was buried on April 28, 1967, at 1911 Historic City Hall. This is one of the several Sesquicentennial events planned for this year. See a full list here.
As the sun goes down, things really heat up in Downtown Lake Charles! I hope to see y’all out there dancing! For more information on Downtown at Sundown, visit www.visitlakecharles.org/events-festivals/downtown-at-sundown.
