I have some pretty fantastic 4th of July memories from growing up in Southwest Louisiana, and they all involve being outdoors with my family popping fireworks.  Unfortunately, my older brothers were responsible for purchasing fireworks, and their only concern was finding ones that made as much noise as possible. Now on the 4th, we grab some blankets and head over to the Lake Charles Civic Center for the Red White Blue and You celebration!

Flag & Fireworks

The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. and consists of all of my favorite 4th of July necessities…food-vendors, a star-spangled street parade, a patriotic concert featuring the Lake Charles Community Band along with the Louisiana Choral Foundation and friends.

RWBY Boat Parade

The fireworks show starts at approximately 9:15 p.m., so make sure you get to the seawall early for “the best seats.” Or if you are lucky enough to be on a boat, fireworks over the lake, are incredible!! (Click here for a list of the best places to watch fireworks)

Let’s face it, we like to celebrate events and holidays for more than just one day in Louisiana, which is why you should take your family to Fort Polk for Freedom Fest on July 1st. This free event features performances by Grammy Award-winning Country Music Sensation Maren Morris, special guest Brooke Eden and a firework spectacular! Visit their website for information.
