Lake Charles has you covered with fun things to do with family throughout the week and all month long. September is a great time to explore, from lively tailgates and block parties to serene strolls through a farmers market. Your family will delight in the affordable family-friendly activities happening this month throughout Southwest Louisiana.
Attend a Fall Festival
The biggest book event returns to Southwest Louisiana! Writers, readers, and poetry enthusiasts won't want to miss the creative workshops, author meet and greets, and vendors booths at the South Coast Book Festival.
Frolic through the pumpkin patch and enjoy contests, hayrides, ponies, and more at Almosta Ranch’s annual Fall Fest.
Celebrate the Grand Opening of Urban Air-Lake Charles
Urban Air, the much-anticipated adventure park is now open! The indoor amusement park lets you test your limits on epic attractions like the thrilling Ropes Course and the Sky Rider, to name a few! Parents, don't just sit on the sidelines! Strap into a harness and soar through the air, or discover your inner ninja on the Warrior Obstacle Course. Refuel with delicious bites at the Urban Air Café. You'll need it after burning all that energy—and those calories!
Cheer on the Pokes
Get pumped up for the return of football and volleyball season at the Cowboy Block Party every Friday before a home game. Then on Saturday enjoy outdoor games and delicious meals—not to mention all the boudin you can handle at the community tailgate, gearing up for the exciting games against Stephen F. Austin and Alcorn State.
Sing, Shop, and Socialize
Once a month join Families for Inclusion at the Community Playdate, where kids and families of all abilities can play and enjoy a picnic at Pinederosa Park. On Mondays, head to Rikenjaks for family karaoke hosted by DJ SHAWNiE V. Sing your heart out, enjoy the patio games, and even better kids eat free!
Shop from local vendors and artisans for crafts, produce, desserts, or home-cooked meals at the farmers market! Weekly markets include the Cash & Carry, Charlestown, Westlake, and the Moss Bluff market. Don't miss Almosta Ranch's farmers market, Meet Me at the Market, and Gillis Trade Days Farmers Market held once a month.
Skate Through September with Partners in Parks
Each month the City of Lake Charles’ Partners in Parks Initiative hosts free or low-cost family-friendly activities. These events allow attendees an opportunity to get out and explore the city with visits to local parks and entertainment venues hosted by local businesses, industry leaders, and law enforcement.
Grab your roller skates—and knee pads if you’re a little rusty, then head to the Lake Charles Event Center for the return of Skatember! Families have three chances to hit the rink: Skatember Roller Disco Family Night, Skatember Frightful Friday Family Night, and Skatetember Glow Party/Family Night Finale.
