Whether your mom is an outdoor enthusiast, a fashionista, foodie, rockstar, artist, or needs a spa day - she deserves a break on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12-14! So, in addition to the handmade cards, bouquet of flowers, or breakfast-in-bed approaches, here are some ideas that might inspire the perfect way to celebrate all the mother figures in your life!

1. Outdoorsy Mom

Does your mom love granola and spending time in nature? You can go as all-out as you want while exploring Louisiana’s Playground with mom. Nature lovers will be able to soak in the sun, sounds of waves, walking trails, and birding adventures along the Creole Nature Trail. Cameron Prairie’s Pintail Wildlife Drive is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of the American Alligator! If you have not been out to Sam Houston Jones State Park lately, in addition to exploring walking trails, you can rent kayaks, or spend time with mom in some of the new cabins or Tentrr sites for a full weekend of relaxation in nature. For daytime adventures, you can also book a kayak tour with Lake Area Adventures or an evening glow-bike ride around the city with Lake Area Cruisers.

2. Fashionista Mom:

If nothing says glamour quite like your mom’s eclectic closet, then she might be a fashionista! To keep your mom’s style on point, there are boutiques with clothing, hats, or jewelry (icing) to keep your mom’s chances of being on the cover of a magazine at an all-time high. But, don’t wait until Mother’s Day itself since it falls on a Sunday, get her prepped for her special day by an outing with mom on Mother’s Day weekend! Right on Broad Street, check out Olive & Indigo for fashion-forward pieces. Southern luxe items and paper goods at Papersmith & Co. curates jewelry, candles, and gift items in addition to quality paper products and pens. Around the corner, top off your outfit with a fashionable hat at Bespoke Hat Company for various hats, accessories, genuine leather bags, sunglasses, and shoes. Other fun fashion hot spots are Cruella’s Boutique, Accessory Zone, Lydia & Lavender, Mimosa Boutique, and Mill & Gray.

3. Foodie Mom

Brunch is the name of the game for Mother’s Day in Louisiana’s Playground. There is no shortage of places to explore for a mimosa, Bloody Mary, or eggs benedict – not to mention bacon on just about everything. One of the most popular Sunday brunches is the Jazz Brunch at Luna Bar & Grill in downtown Lake Charles. Best to arrive early to get a table. A local favorite is the VooDoo Bloody Mary at MacFarlane’s Celtic Pub. Let’s face it, it’s “Insta-worthy,” so snap a memory with mom! The Villa Harlequin in downtown is a high-end brunch spot with a unique spin on bread pudding – savory! Other places for brunch are Rikenjak’s in midtown, Restaurant Calla, Panorama Music House, and Crying Eagle Brewing Company. Be sure to check out delicious places to get breakfast, lunch & dinner, and explore Bayou Rum, Yellowfin Vodka, or The Wine Store.

4. Rockstar Mom

This mom probably wore side ponytails, crimped her hair, or definitely wore mismatched earrings back her in day. You know this mom – she’s a rockstar. She was the coolest on the block, and she probably never told you to turn down your music! On Mother’s Day weekend, take this rocker out to see live music! Panorama Music House in downtown Lake Charles is a two-story music-palooza! Enjoy the music downstairs for a front-row seat and dance floor or check out the rooftop bar. She’ll also enjoy the vintage and (very cool) collection of music memorabilia, records, posters, instruments, band T-shirts and more at the Panorama Music Exchange, located on the first floor of the Panorama Music House. Check out the event calendar for live music, nightlife, and concerts at area resorts.

5. The Artistic Mom

For the moms who encouraged creativity, finger painting (no matter how messy), artistic pursuits, and coloring outside the lines – this one’s for you! Celebrate mom by bringing her to see some of the Lake Area’s museums and art galleries. Located in the heart of downtown, the 1911 Historic City Hall features multiple galleries such as the Black Heritage Gallery, Art Associates’ Gallery, in addition to rotating exhibits. The Imperial Calcasieu Museum also has rotating exhibits to explore along with a 300 year old majestic oak tree, the Sallier Oak on site. In Downtown Lake Charles, check out Alexander Art Studio for one of the largest independently owned art studios in the state. In Sulphur, the Henning Cultural Center features rotating exhibits, and you can also take mom to Flock of Five Art Emporium to purchase local art, jewelry, candles, honey, and everything in between. A culmination of artistic experiences would be the special Crying Eagle Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14. The brunch includes Painting with a Twist, wine & mimosa Specials, live music, and more!

6. Mom Who Needs A Spa Day

Let’s face it. No matter what kind of mom you have, giving them a spa day is the ultimate way to say thank you for all they do! And Louisiana’s Playground has plenty of choices for spoiling your mom. Ritzy, glitzy spa days at area resorts never disappoint. Check out spa options at Spa du Lac at L’Auberge Casino Resort and the Spa & Salon at Golden Nugget. New to the Lake Area is Alevan offering a full service of pampering spa and salon options, including Swedish massages in addition to deep tissue and hot stone massages. Scarborough’s Salon & Day Spa or Massage Lake Charles are other delightful options for spoiling your mom!
