You’ve got a week off from school or work and you and your friends want to plan a road trip. Where do you go? The usual beaches are a bit cliché. Skiing is, well, very cold. How about someplace unique and different? Come to Lake Charles, Louisiana! Plan your spring fling around our fabulous casinos, AH-MAZING food, world-class golf courses, and alligators in the wild!

Southwest Louisiana is home to four exciting casino resorts. The fun never ends! After the thrills and excitement of slots and other gaming tables, satisfy your hunger at one of the dozens of dining establishments. Relax with a drink and listen to live music in one of several bars. Cool off in the pool or float down a “lazy river.” Browse the numerous trendy shops and take home a souvenir or a new addition to your wardrobe. Then retire to a luxurious room or suite. Each resort will ensure that you are thoroughly entertained, well-fed, and comfortable!

Delta Downs is well-known for its premier horse racing. L’Auberge and Golden Nugget have heated outdoor pools and spa amenities. The Isle of Capri has a live poker room.

Southwest Louisiana boasts six championship 18-hole golf courses. Warm up with a bucket or two on the driving ranges. After the 18th hole, dine and relax in the clubhouses and browse the pro shops.  To see the complete list of local golf courses, see our link here.

No trip to Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes is complete without a visit to our legendary Louisiana Outback. Unwind and take in the unique sights and sounds along the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road. And bring your fishing pole! This National Scenic Byway loops through 180 miles of wildlife refuges, marsh grass, bayous, and walkways to explore nature up close. You may see alligators sunning themselves along the roadside canals, but for a better view, visit these wildlife sanctuaries. These areas are also perfect for bird watching.

If you’d like a guide to help you connect with the natural beauty of Southwest Louisiana, consider Grosse Savanne Eco-tours. These outfitters offer boat tours and packages for birding and nature photography. Lake Area Adventures and Paddle Up Lake Charles are great avenues to getting on the water. Sign up for a guided kayak tour or stand up paddleboard lessons!

The cherry on top (or should we say shrimp) is all the amazing food available during this time of year. Number 1 is crawfish, always. They are at the top of every local seafood restaurant’s menu and we recommend it being your FIRST meal once you get into town. Crying Eagle Brewing is serving fresh brews daily, and since they’ve recently harvested the hops they grow on site – you’ll find one of a kind beers available only at their taproom. Plus their new bistro is SOOOOOOOO good.

Still, think you need some sand and surf for a proper spring break? No problem! We have several beach locations for sun and fun. L’Auberge and Golden Nugget both have beach areas. Holly Beach in Cameron Parish sits at the southern end of the Creole Nature Trail. And Lake Charles has a beach on the north end of the lake.
