Okay all you beer lovers, I know you didn’t need an excuse to celebrate the awesomeness that is craft brews, but you’re not going to want to miss this one. The 3rd Annual Louisiana Winter Beer Festival on Saturday, March 4 at the Historic Calcasieu Marine National Bank building from 1-5 p.m. (12 p.m. for VIPs). The big day is quickly approaching, and this year, you’ll have more than just a full day of fun, you’ll have four!
Lake Charles Beer Week runs March 1-4. So far, over 40 breweries and 120 recipes will be represented in the festival including Lake Charles’ own Crying Eagle Brewery.
Each day from March 1-3 there will be multiple events at multiple locations. Event hosts include Botsky’s, Luna Bar & Grill, My Place American Pub, Hokus Pokus, Darrell's, Crying Eagle Brewing Co., Sloppy’s Downtown and Luna Live. All guaranteed to be a “hoppin” time. Check out a full schedule of beer week: www.visitlakecharles.org/events-festivals/beerweek/
The Brewer’s Ball at Crying Eagle on Friday, March 3, 6-9 p.m. will be more casual than previous year’s dinners. The ball will feature beer paired dinner courses and live entertainment by the Chris Shearman Experience.
During Saturday’s festivities, make sure to be there for the brew debut of Crying Eagle’s and 80s rock band, Foreigner’s “Hop Blooded.” Foreigner visited Lake Charles in January to sample and give their mark of approval. Hop Blooded is a full-flavored, dry-hopped IPA. Biscuity malts and a unique seven-hop blend help this brew sing a tasty tune. (I’m ready for a glass!)
The beer celebration does not end the tasting. Regional rock bands Big Richard and The Blaggards, both out of Houston will perform. The Blaggards are unique, they are a hard rock Irish folk band. You’ve got to have some Irish folk music at the beer festival, am I right? And of course there will be plenty of food, including area food trucks.
And the last bit of good news? We’re giving away 2 VIP Louisiana Winter Beer Fest tickets to the main event on March 4. Click here for a chance to win. Giveaway ends on Feb. 17, 2017.
So don’t give up beer for Lent!
