“A New Collection of Work” Exhibit

1911 Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center

Back

“A New Collection of Work” by Kevin Lawrence Leveque will open in the second-floor gallery on Friday, May 22.

Kevin Leveque studied fine art under a scholarship at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California. After years of traveling abroad and in the U.S., he moved back to his hometown of Lake Charles, where the artist explains he “lives to paint.”

“I paint the poetic landscape where field meets stream, forest touches sky, and prairie runs to the ocean,” said Leveque. “Good people work their land and love their homes. The weather has many moods. Its power and beauty command our attention. Great storms and gentle rain help shape the land. Nature has a story to tell to those who will listen.”

While you’re visiting the Center, be sure to see “TWOFOLD: Lake Charles Legends” in the first-floor gallery, as well as “The Evolution of Black Hair” by Alicia Johnson Black in Black Heritage Gallery.

Following Louisiana’s guidelines for reopening, Historic City Hall visitors are encouraged to wear masks and use hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer dispensers will be located throughout the building. Occupancy will be limited to twenty-five percent occupancy, and the highest standards of cleanliness will be met. Historic City Hall will reopen to the public on Friday, May 22 at 10 a.m. and will resume its normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Evening receptions are suspended until further notice. Admission is free. Charlestown Farmers’ Market is open on Bilbo Street behind the center every Saturday 8 a.m.-noon. For more information, please call 491-9147 or visit www.cityoflakecharles.com.
