The fabled U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the most famous jet demonstration team in the history of aviation, will headline the Chennault International Airshow June 5-6, 2021. The team will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2021 and they will be flying a new model of their plane for the first time in 40 years.“We’re so excited to be hosting the rockstars of the airshow world,” said Airshow Executive Director Mary Jo Bayles.

The non-profit airshow, a local tradition, will be held at Chennault International Airport and will feature a special tribute in recognition of the 77th anniversary of D-Day. The event will also feature the Liberty Jump Team, Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, racing pilot Kevin Coleman and Randy Ball’s MIG-17F. A new feature of the 2021 event will be food trucks.

Proceeds from the Chennault International Airshow benefit STEM education through grants to local science, technology, engineering and math educators. Kevin Melton, executive director of the airport and airshow president, said one of the main reasons for putting on the airshow is to use it as a vehicle to teach children about “the importance of aviation, how STEM plays into that and how important their education is.”

John Java’s Kia of Lake Charles is the airshow’s title sponsor.

HELPFUL AIRSHOW TIPS

REMINDERS AND SUGGESTIONS

  • One ticket per vehicle.

  • You can have as many people as the number of seat belts in your vehicle. This is for safety reasons as well as your group's viewing enjoyment.

  • Traffic leaving Chennault after the airshow is very heavy and long delays may occur. Plan accordingly. Please take your time leaving the airshow and visit some of the vendors on your way out. And make sure you take that last restroom break before you sit in traffic!

  • Food and drink vendors will be set up throughout the grounds. Attendees may bring outside, prepared items to eat. No cooking or heating of food is allowed. No glass containers.

  • We adhere to social distancing and other health measures and recommendations currently in place by area and state officially and public health professionals. Even with these safeguards, please note that under Louisiana law, there is no liability for an injury or death of an individual entering the Chennault International Airport property. If such injury or death results from the inherent risks of contracting COVID-19, you are assuming the risk by entering the premises. We will balance our dual goals of having healthy, safe tailgaters and presenting an exciting airshow.
