McNeese Theatre is proud and excited to announce its first musical production in three years. Cole Porter's "Kiss Me Kate" will bring the 2016-17 season to an exciting and hilarious climax.
"Kiss Me Kate" is described as "one of the most famous musical 'adaptations' of Shakespeare for the stage. Focusing on a theatre company putting up a musical version of 'The Taming of the Shrew,' the show traces the main relationship between director/leading man Fred Graham and his ex-wife/leading lady Lilli Vanessi as they respectively portray the Shakespearean roles of Petruchio and Katherine (the Shrew to be tamed, of course!).
Fred and Lilli are joined by a troupe of traveling performers who play an assortment of roles, as life begins to imitate art and the action quickly moves from backstage into the production onstage.
The show includes such Porter classics as "Another Op'nin, Another Show," "Wunderbar" and "Brush up Your Shakespeare."
The play will be directed by guest director Walt Kiser and choreographed by guest artist Damien Thibodeaux.
"Kiss me Kate" will be staged at the Tritico Theatre on April 5-8 with show times at 7:30 p.m. and on April 9 at 2 p.m.
