The Lake Charles Community Band will perform “SkeleTUNES on the Lake”

The Lake Charles Community Band will perform “SkeleTUNES on the Lake” on Halloween night. The ghoulish and sinister concoction of a concert is FREE and will take place Monday October 31, 2016 from 7-8 pm on the 2nd floor Mezzanine of the Lake Charles Civic Center. The band is under the direction of Fred Roeder and assistant conductor Leo Murray. SkeleTUNES is sponsored by the City of Lake Charles and Phillips 66. Selections will include:

“Things Go Bump in the Night”- The title was taken from the second to last line of a traditional Scottish prayer and is defined in the English Dictionary as anything that may be unknown or frightening, especially noise. The prayer reads, “From ghoulies and ghosties/ and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us!”The arrangement includes unnerving selections from Toccata and Fugue, Tales from the Crypt Theme, Psycho and the Theme from Jaws.

“Who’s That Masked Man”- The medley opens with the William Tell Overture of The Lone Ranger. The galloping beat has been the masked ranger’s theme since 1930. The arrangement transitions into Spider-Man and The Phantom of the Opera, (written by Andrew Lloyd Weber for Broadway in 1986.)  Next, comes the “Glory of the Days” from Michael Giacchino’s 2004 film score theme from The Incredibles; and on to the Mexican melody of Zorro’s Theme from the 1988 movie The Mask of Zorro.

“Thriller”, Michael Jackson’s “monster” hit from the 1982 album. Thriller was Jackson’s sixth studio album and the first in history to yield seven top-ten singles.

A medley of selections from the Broadway Musical “WICKED” includes No One Mourns the Witch, Dancing Through Life, No Good Deed, For Good, and No One Mourns the Witches.

“The Addams Family” hit Broadway in April 2010. It is about a ghoulish American family with the affinity for all things macabre. The medley includes The Addams Family Theme, Overture from The Addams Family, When You’re an Addams, and Moving Towards the Darkness.Audience:  GET READY TO SNAP YOUR FINGERS

“Pirates of the Caribbean” has all the swashbuckling excitement of the high seas. Titles include The Medallion Calls, The Black Pearl, To the Pirates Cave, Our Last Shot and He’s A Pirate.

For “The Haunted Carousel”, imagine strange music, haunting and off kilter, coming from a creaking carousel, breaking the eerie silence of the night. Suddenly the music softens as the sun begins to rise and the circus fades like a distant dream.

Selections from Tim Burton’s “The Night Before Christmas”- The story is about Jack Skellington, a character from “Halloween Town” who stumbles through a portal and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences.

Selections from “The Wizard of OZ” - Over the Rainbow, Ding! Dong! The Witch is Dead, We’re Off To See The Wizard, The Merry Land of OZ, and If Only I Had A Brain.
