McNeese Wind Symphony Concert

The McNeese State University W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts will present the McNeese Wind Symphony in a free concert at 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, in Tritico Theatre of the Shearman Fine Arts Annex. The concert is under the direction of conductor Jay N. Jacobs.

Titled “Raising Godzilla,” this concert will feature several contemporary works for wind ensemble as well as some more classic standards. Works by 20th century composers will include: “Armenian Dances, Part 1,” by Alfred Reed; “His Honor,”by Henry Fillmore; “Raise the Roof,”by Michael Daugherty, featuring Dr. Lonny Benoit, McNeese assistant professor of percussion, on timpani, and “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas,” by Eric Whitacre.

This concert is held in conjunction with the McNeese Regional High School Honor Band weekend March 2-3, which brings over 130 high school musicians - from 24 Louisiana and Texas high schools - to campus.

The Honors Band will present a free concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3. Guest conductors are Daniel Gaylen, from the University of Northern Iowa, and Mark Minton, from Parkway High School in Bossier City.
