ALA Gallery by the Lake is opening a national visual arts competition challenging artists of the bayous to conjure new artistic visions with "Swamp Witch Hattie, Bayou Legends, Monsters and Friends".
The competition is now open on client.smarterentry.com. Contestants may submit three entries for $25. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded at the Awards Reception on April 8. Selected artwork for the show will hang in the gallery's Creative Arts Center through June 23. Details may now be found on our website with a full prospectus to follow as we are making changes to our website.
The gallery committee designed the competition to be fun for the artists in "bayouland" as well as for the imaginative public. As the theme implies, artists are encouraged to use legends of their own unique vision to develop ideas for artwork.
"The aim is to inspire art interpretation of Louisiana bayou legends, monsters and friends. We hope this creative perspective on our beautiful area invites residents and visitors to come back for more pictures and recreation to inspire their own story and have a great time in the process", said competition coordinator, Patricia Craft.
Our friends at Lagniappe Magazine published an interesting article in their October 22, 2017 edition about swamp legends. Contestants might want to take a look, but by no means will artwork be judged on how correctly the artwork fits with the stories published.
