150 Acts of Kindness

One of the greatest things about Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana, in general, is the size of the hearts of those who call the area home.

In an effort to celebrate 150 years of Lake Charles and spread a little kindness, citizens are invited to pay kindness forward and spread a little love to family, friends and strangers alike. Help us meet and exceed our goal of 150 acts of kindness in 2017.

Getting Started

Spreading kindness doesn’t take a lot of time or money. Here are some ideas to help get you started.

  • Bake cookies or a meal for your neighbor.
  • Pay for the meal of the person behind you in the drive-thru line.
  • Go to the local library and pay someone’s late fees.
  • Volunteer to watch a neighbor or friend’s children for the evening.
  • Make cards for a local assisted living facility or go play board or card games with the residents.
  • Help a neighbor who is not able to clean up their yard.
  • Pick up trash at a local park or in your neighborhood.
  • Write and/or put together a care package for a service man or woman. (www.operationgratitude.com)
  • Read to children at a local afterschool program or to children in your neighborhood.
  • Donate needed supplies to a classroom teacher.
  • Collect your spare change for an entire month and donate it to a local nonprofit at the end of the month.

Spread the Word

We want to hear about your acts! Post them to the @LakeCharlesCity Twitter account with the hashtag #LakeCharles150 .
