BooZoo’s Labor Day Festival
LAKE CHARLES, La. (August 1, 2016) --- Celebrate the rich musical heritage of southwest Louisiana this Labor Day at the 32nd Annual BooZoo’s Labor Day Festival in Iowa, La. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. This family-friendly event promises a full day of Zydeco music, a black pot cook off and great food.
The festival originated in 1984 as a fan appreciation party started by legendary Zydeco artist Wilson Anthony “BooZoo” Chavis. It was originally held in BooZoo’s backyard, but as the years went on, the festival became bigger and was moved to larger venues. As a family-friendly event, BooZoo’s relatives were always involved in the festival planning process. BooZoo’s wife Leona prepared signature Creole dishes from red beans and rice to crawfish ettouffe.
“BooZoo always hired musicians young and old. From the legendary Beau-Jacque to JoJo Reed, and even some Cajun bands. People come from around the world to attend this festival. It’s amazing to see,” said Mason Trail, festival coordinator.
This year’s festival is being held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 503 E. Hwy 90, Iowa, La. Doors open at 10 a.m. and live music begins at 11 a.m. The cost of admission is $15 and can be paid at the door. Admission for children ages 12 and under is free. Barbeque and red beans & rice will be available for festival goers. The black pot cook off begins at 7 a.m. and judging will start at 10 a.m. The price of admission is $50 per 2-person team.
The exciting Zydeco lineup includes popular acts such as Keith Frank and his Soileau Zydeco Band, Chris Ardoin and Nustep, Geno Delafosse and French Rocking Boogie, Wayne and Same Ol’ 2 Step and concludes with The Doghill Stompers.
