Southwest Louisiana Christmas Parades, Dec. 5-13
Calcasieu Parish, La (November 13, 2014) -- A Cajun Christmas in Southwest Louisiana includes a variety of holiday parades beginning Friday, Dec. 5 and running through Saturday, Dec. 13.
The excitement kicks off with the parade in downtown DeQuincy on Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. followed by a Christmas program at McNamara Park at 6 p.m. and fireworks at the DeQuincy Ball Park at 7:30 p.m.
Sulphur's Kiwanis Christmas Balloons on Parade will also take place on Dec. 5 beginning at 6 p.m. Giant, colorful balloons and floats will proceed down Cypress Street coinciding with the Christmas Under the Oaks Festival and Holiday House.
Stay in the holiday spirit with two more Christmas parades on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Light Up the Lake Christmas Lighting Festival street parade in downtown Lake Charles will begin at 1 p.m. at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Stick around to enjoy other free activities for the whole family and the Lighted Boat Parade at the seawall at 6:30 p.m. topped off by fireworks at 7:15 p.m.
The Starks Christmas Parade will also take place Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. and will end at the Starks VFW 4759 where everyone can enjoy a Christmas gumbo.
The jammed pack weekends don't end there. The Vinton Christmas Parade starts the festivities in downtown Vinton on Friday, Dec. 12 at 5 p.m., followed by family friendly activities, a gumbo cook-off, and a visit from Old St. Nicholas.
The Westlake Christmas parade starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Later that same day, Iowa's Christmas Parade begins at 4 p.m. followed by Christmas in the Park at Lawrence Toups Memorial Park Pavilion at 5 p.m. with a chili cook-off, Christmas tree display and concert. The Moss Bluff Christmas Parade ends the holiday parade season on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.
