The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) was recently honored with the highly coveted Shining Example Award for Tourism Office of the Year with competition from the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The staff at the CVB had a tremendously successful year with major accomplishments including the opening Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point, hosting Travel Media Showcase national event of media professionals, and creating ‘My Southwest Louisiana Home’ original video and song. Not to mention, the CVB launched several apps in addition to working with sporting events and hosting groups, with tourism bringing in $385 million to Calcasieu Parish in travel expenditures. 

“This honor does not happen without everyone pouring every bit of creativity, energy and excellence into each project. The staff at the CVB works incredibly hard. We are passionate about what we do, and we love working with everyone in the community to bring about the best results for Southwest Louisiana,” said Shelley Johnson, executive director of the CVB.

The award was presented to the CVB at the Southeast Tourism Society’s (STS) fall conference held Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 8-10, in Charleston, W.Va. STS presents Shining Examples Awards annually to salute achievements in tourism, which ranks in the top three industries in each of the 12 member states.

STS is dedicated to improving the economic vitality of the Southeast by uniting all segments of the travel and tourism industry; promoting tourism within member states by fostering cooperation, sharing resources and providing continuing education.
