There are a number of ways to experience the sights and sounds of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Enjoy Lake Charles’ waterways and discover nature as you’ve never seen it before by kayak. Experience the beauty of the Calcasieu River as you kayak along the banks of the West Fork to Sam Houston Jones State Park.  Near the park, Indian Bayou is another relaxing paddling experience in Moss Bluff beneath the picturesque cypress trees. Lloyd’s Country Store, 318 Phillips Road in Westlake, offers single and tandem kayaks rentals ideal for fishing or just gliding along the river. Perfect for a family outing -inner tubes are available to tie on the back of kayak for additional storage or for a child.

Bayou Kayak Rentals, 2360 Lake Street, features 2 hour, half day, and full day kayak rentals that will get you out on the water. You’ll have access to Contraband Bayou, Little Bayou, plus beach access to L’Auberge Casino Resort and Golden Nugget Lake Charles. Each resort has a myriad of dining selections that are sure to please. Upon arrival, dock the kayaks and dive into a feast of local flavors.

Create your own eco-tour while exploring the Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, part of the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road. Launch into the Lacassine Pool to discover the 16,000 acres of a fresh water impoundment great for fishing, bird watching, and photography. Expect to catch bass, bluegill or crappie. Just make sure you have a Louisiana fishing license.

For those looking for sea or expedition kayaking the Joseph Harbor Launch in Grand Chenier and Davis Road/Jetty Boat Launch in Cameron both have kayak launches with access to the Gulf of Mexico. For dolphin spotting, launch a kayak at the ship channel near the Cameron ferry.

Other popular paddling places include Prien Lake and Bayou d’Inde. You can access both waterways from the launch site located at Prien Lake Park.
