Celebrates National Tourism Week May 5-13


LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 3, 2018)—The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau (LC/SWLA CVB) is celebrating National Tourism Week, May 5-13. The travel and tourism industry has a powerful impact on Louisiana’s economy and continues to grow year over year.  In 2017, the LC/SWLA CVB generated more than 67,000 hotel room night stays resulting in an economic impact of $645.76 million for Calcasieu Parish.

“We are fortunate to have such diverse offerings for visitors to enjoy with an abundance of outdoor adventures, Cajun cuisine, museums, galleries, casino gaming, festivals, music, arts and culture. We invite everyone to learn more about local attractions as well as what the CVB does to promote tourism during National Tourism Week,” said Shelley Johnson, executive director of the LC/SWLA CVB.

Saturday, May 5, bring the family to the tourist bureau to celebrate Children’s Day. There will be groups with displays and activities for the family to enjoy, including light refreshments and Gumbeaux Gator, our goodwill ambassador.

Friday, May 11, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser will be in Southwest Louisiana, traveling through the area promoting Louisiana Travel’s latest tourism campaign and statistics. He will be promoting the state’s record-breaking tourism economic impact.

During National Tourism Week, the public is invited to visit the tourist bureau at 1205 N. Lakeshore Drive in Lake Charles and the CVB’s satellite office located at Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point, 2740 Ruth St. in Sulphur. Every 100th visitor will receive a special gift bag filled with Southwest Louisiana goodies.

The Hours of operation at the LC/SWLA CVB are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours of operation for Adventure Point are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
