LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 1, 2014)-The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) State Farm Fast Pitch 56 tournament returns to Sulphur for its 14th consecutive year at Frasch Park, May 2-3. This two-day event features the top 56 high school softball teams in seven classes from all across Louisiana vying for the championship crown.

The tournament is a tremendous economic stimulant for the local economy, bringing in millions of dollars with an estimated attendance of around 21,000 people. Hotels across Calcasieu Parish sell out for the weekend making this a win-win situation for not only Sulphur, but all of Calcasieu Parish.

"The LHSAA is delighted to team up with Sulphur Parks & Recreation (SPAR) for another year of high school state softball championships," said Kenny Henderson, LHSAA executive director. "We believe that our high school softball student-athletes, coaches, families and fans from every corner of our state will be excited to see this year's Fast Pitch 56 matchups and enjoy all that Sulphur and the surrounding communities have to offer them at the same time."

"We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have secured a venue like Frasch Park with high quality facilities and gracious staff members to host this top-notch high school softball tournament," added Henderson.

"Sulphur Parks & Recreation looks forward to once again welcoming everyone to the premier softball event in the state of Louisiana," said Norman Farr, Director of Sulphur Parks & Recreation.

"The people of Southwest Louisiana have embraced this event over the past 14 years, and we are excited once again to crown seven champions in high school softball. The atmosphere at the ballpark is phenomenal throughout this event and it spills over to the community as well. You will see these girls and their fans all over the parish at local hotels, restaurants and shops throughout the weekend," said Eric Zartler, acting sales director for the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau.

We are asking all local businesses to help us by displaying "Welcome LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 Tournament" on their marquees or signs during the tournament to show the spectators a little southern hospitality and invite the community out to cheer on these talented young women.

Admission to Friday's games is $10 per session. Saturday the admission cost is $10 per session or $15 for the entire day.
