11th Annual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest Winners
LAKE CHARLES, La. (February 4, 2019) –The Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau (LC/SWLA CVB) recently held a communitywide Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest. Those entering ranged from school groups, professionals, and residents of all ages.
Madisyn Arthur took home first place; Grace Castille was awarded second place, and Da’Jae Arthur won third place in the Children’s Division.
First place winner in the Teen Division was Emma Istre.
Capturing first place in the Elementary School Division was Wendy Davis’ class from Prien Lake Elementary School. Benjamin Godel’s class from Prien Lake Elementary landed second place honors, and Leah Mallett’s class from Prien Lake Elementary won third place.
D’Nae Stanley’s class from S.P. Arnett Middle School took home first in the Middle School Division. Second place went to Mary Donaldson’s class at Iowa Middle School, and Jennifer Mattison’s class from F.K. White Middle School placed third.
In the Adult Division, Betty Ellender won first place followed by Debra Sullivan in second place and Kristy Barnes in third place.
First place in the Professional Division was awarded to Lisa Reed with Flock of Five Gift & Art Emporium.
Best of Show was awarded to Leah Mallett’s class due to the high amount of detail and realistic authenticity featured on one of the floats in the group’s entry.
Visitors to the LC/SWLA CVB’s welcome center, located at 1205 N. Lakeshore Drive, can vote for their favorite shoebox float for the People’s Choice Award to be presented on Wednesday, March 6, at 10 a.m.
