Margaret Place Historic District & Shell Beach Drive

Margaret Place, established in 1911 after the Great Fire of 1910, was developed from Margaret Perkins's former farmland. Named in her honor, the lakefront neighborhood grew into a desirable area known for its Craftsman and bungalow-style homes.

Shell Beach Drive, once part of the Old Spanish Trail, offered travelers a scenic route lined with grand homes and gardens before the I-10 Bridge opened in 1950. Many properties feature boathouses mirroring their architectural style.

Charpentier Historic District

The Charpentier Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, includes more than 400 structures and can be explored through several neighborhood tours. These tours help organize your visit and share the story of this diverse area. "Charpentier," meaning "carpenter" in French, reflects the language of its earliest builders.
