In Lake Charles, spring is a season of cultural expression, celebrating history, heritage, and cuisine.  The Louisiana Railroad Days Festival at the DeQuincy Railroad Museum is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event honoring DeQuincy’s railroad roots, with carnival rides, model train exhibits, food vendors, and more. The festival is free, and nearby, visitors can taste more local traditions at Coconuts Cajun Grill DQ

This Is Home Fest is a free event at the Lake Charles Event Center Amphitheater, showcasing music, art, and food for all ages. It’s conveniently close to The Marco Hotel and Pujo St. Cafe, where the burger is a must-try.

Seasonal events in the region include Juneteenth, a free celebration of freedom featuring family fun days, live performances, spoken word, and a community cook-off, followed by the Holly Beach Crab Festival along the coast, where wristbands are available for adults and kids, and the youngest guests enter free. The festival features music, kids’ games, cooking demos, and competitions like Crab Cook-Offs and Crab Calling Contests. 

Still hungry? Head to Anchor’s Up Grill for more soft-shell crab or to Lighthouse Bend for fresh Gulf Coast seafood, sizzling steaks, and Louisiana specialties in a relaxed, waterside setting.

From fireworks to splash pads, summer shines in Lake Charles, with outdoor fun fit for the whole family. The Red, White, Blue, & You! Fourth of July Celebration, held on the lakefront, is a free event with all-day activities, including a hot dog cook-off and live music, culminating with a Glow Show at night. Attendees can bring lawn chairs, and food trucks are on hand, while downtown Lake Charles teems with restaurants. 

Held at the Burton Complex, the family-friendly Cajun Music and Food Festival pairs local flavor with local sound. Look for etouffee, jambalaya, and gumbo, plus local souvenirs, live music, and a kids’ zone. 

The Cal-Cam Fair has been a Sulphur staple for over a century, taking place at the West Cal Arena & Events Center. Visitors come for the classic mix of carnival rides, pageants, rabbit shows, comfort food, and plenty more to explore.

Lake Charles’ splash pads and waterparks are among the best things to do with kids: quintessential summer fun like the splash park at lakefront Millennium Park; the new Lazy Gator Waterpark, a 4.5-acre watery wonderland with the region’s longest lazy river and a beach-entry pool; and Sulphur’s SPAR Waterpark, featuring slides, splash pads, a lazy river, and family-friendly play areas.

A season for fairs and comfort, fall is a wonderful time to get a taste of Lake Charles. Bands and beers share the stage at Chuck Fest (mid-October), a free event downtown with five stages, a kids’ area, food court, art market, and beer tent.

Everything’s merry and bright during the holidays in Lake Charles, where Cajun Christmas includes weeks of festivities. It starts with the free Light Up The Lake Christmas Celebration on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Lake Charles Event Center, with a lighting display, food trucks, and Santa’s Workshop. Later, Christmas Under The Oaks and Holiday House, at Sulphur’s Henning Cultural Center, take place the first weekend of December, featuring rides, shops, music, and “snow.”

The season continues with the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival, a spectacle of Cajun music, cook-offs, carnival rides, trap shooting, and a parade — held late-December through early-January in downtown Cameron. Other winter highlights include Chuck Eats Restaurant Week, where 35+ restaurants offer budget-friendly prix fixe menus, and Mardi Gras events throughout the season, such as the Mardi Gras Merchants’ Parade and the Royal Gala.
