2020 Mardi Gras Season Kickoff Event & Poster Reveal Party

LAKE CHARLES, La. (December 19, 2019)—Southwest Louisiana is kicking off the 2020 Mardi Gras Season with a two-day celebration, Friday – Saturday, Jan. 3 - 4, 2020. On Friday, Jan. 3, from 5 – 8 p.m., there will be a Mardi Gras Kickoff & Poster Reveal Party complete with food trucks including Sloppy Taco and Hi-Licious, complimentary wine and beer, Mardi Gras floats on display, Mardi Gras costumes, the Twelfth Night Revelers, Gumbeaux Gator and live music by Bluesiana Red at Alexander Art Studio, 900 Ryan St. #102. The following day, celebrate the Twelfth Night Car Show at the Lake Charles Event Center from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., and later that evening at the Civic Center, enjoy Twelfth Night with a presentation by Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Krewes at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

During the event on Friday evening, Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana will be revealing one of the most significant Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Posters to date. The poster, created by Candice Alexander, features history, tradition and culture tied together in a timeless piece of art. Her work is collected across the country, and she was also commissioned by the Krewe of Mystick in Washington DC to create the 2020 Mardi Gras Poster. Both posters will be available for viewing and photo opportunities.

“The poster reveal and season kick-off was an idea that came together whenever we brainstormed with members from Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana and Visit Lake Charles. Everyone thought that the community would love to come together for a true kickoff to the season complete with music and dancing. We love to celebrate in Southwest Louisiana, and this event gives everyone a chance to understand all the events that people can experience in 2020 since there will be brochures and information available about Mardi Gras,” said Alexander, artist.

“Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana is looking forward to a wonderful 2020 Mardi Gras season. Please join us as we kick off on January 3 and continue the celebration through Mardi Gras day,” said Craig Guillory, Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana Board President.

“Mardi Gras is culturally significant and a world-wide brand. We are eager to get the word out about our incredible events in Southwest Louisiana. This kickoff event creates energy, photo and video opportunities for local media and social media, and it will help build awareness of the Mardi Gras season and events in Southwest Louisiana for the entire community,” said Angie Manning, communications director at Visit Lake Charles.

The Friday evening event is made possible by Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana, Visit Lake Charles, Crying Eagle Brewing Company, attorney Ron Richard, Nola Lending, Renaitre Medical Aesthetics and Candice Alexander.
