From recognizing those who serve to spotlighting those who visit, May was a month of meaningful progress for Southwest Louisiana’s tourism industry. Our “Always Here” campaign reminded residents and leaders alike of the powerful role visitors play in our region’s economy – supporting small businesses, fueling local jobs, and helping our community thrive year-round.
We also took time to honor the hospitality workers who bring that visitor experience to life. At our fourth annual ROSE (Recognition of Service Excellence) Awards, we celebrated the individuals who go above and beyond every day with genuine warmth and unmatched service. Their dedication is the reason people feel at home here, whether they’re traveling for business, leisure, or the love of Louisiana.
In this edition of Tourism Works, we’re shining a light on the value of our visitors and the people who make their time in Southwest Louisiana unforgettable, as well as the work our VLC team has done this month.
Visit Lake Charles Impact
Spotlighting Visitors: “Always Here” Campaign
In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, Visit Lake Charles launched the “Always Here” campaign – a storytelling initiative that brings visibility to the essential role visitors play in strengthening the Southwest Louisiana economy. With more than 7 million visitors generating $800 million in total spending last year and in 2023, tourism continues to be a driving force for local business growth, job creation, and community development.
Why Lake Charles Visitors Are Always Welcome | #AlwaysHereLC
Through a compelling video and wide-reaching digital out-of-home displays, the campaign captures the emotional and economic impact of tourism. It highlights how visitors are ever-present in our daily lives: booking hotel stays, dining at restaurants, exploring the outdoors, and experiencing the culture of Southwest Louisiana. The message is simple but powerful, even when we don’t see them, visitors are “Always Here,” supporting our local way of life.
To amplify the campaign’s reach, Visit Lake Charles partnered with more than 40 local businesses to display posters, coasters, and coffee sleeves, while business owners shared messages on social media about tourism’s importance. VLC also teamed up with Lake Charles Regional Airport, the City of Lake Charles, and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's Parks Department to broaden visibility.
Additionally, the campaign was tailored with dual messaging, reminding locals of tourism’s positive impact while letting hotel guests, our visitors, know, “We See You.” Through signage and in-room materials, the campaign offers a warm welcome and appreciation to visitors who help shape the heartbeat of our community.
Then, when content creators Josh and Jase made an unplanned stop in Lake Charles during National Travel and Tourism Week, their visit naturally reflected the spirit of the VLC campaign: “Always Here.” Without a scheduled tour or partnership, their real-time storytelling captured the essence of being a visitor in Southwest Louisiana.
Senior Director of Social Media/Communications, Kathryn Shea Duncan, quickly engaged by sharing tips, amplifying their posts, and leaning into the moment. The result: thousands of engagements, expanded reach, earned media coverage, and global visibility. Their spontaneous visit became a storytelling opportunity that highlighted the power of real-time destination marketing.
