Rex Alexander is a ceramic artist from Lake Charles. Alexander became interested in ceramics while majoring in Geology at McNeese State University. He took his first course in ceramics in 1996, and immediately exhibited a natural talent, and developed a fascination for all aspects of the craft. Alexander changed his major to Art and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art. Today, Alexander continues to be a prolific potter. He has built a workshop at his home which includes a large gas/fiber kiln that he uses to bisque and glaze. He prefers stoneware and porcelain. Using pyrometric cones, Alexander fires bisque loads to cone 010 (1750°) and glaze loads to cone 10 (2350°). All of Alexander’s pottery is wheel-thrown and most of it is functional. He is often recognized for his TRX mugs which you can find in downtown Lake Charles.
