Sandra Walkin never considered herself an artist until someone told her she was. That encounter in 2012 led her on a journey to becoming a furniture artist who combines metal and wood to create one-of-a-kind pieces. She did an apprenticeship with George Olivier of Olivier Furniture in Natchitoches, Louisiana, a course with the JD Lohr School of Woodworking in Pennsylvania, and workshops and classes with David Marks Designer/Craftsman in Northern California. She had a solo exhibition in 2016 at 1911 Historic City Hall in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Description of Work
Sandra's craft is concentrated on using natural edge slabs to make tables with metal inlay, gilding and metal patination to create functional pieces of furniture art. She often uses discarded slabs declared unfit for traditional furniture art. "There is beauty in imperfection. There is no greater artist than Mother Nature. I only enhance what she has already done'. -Sandra Walkin
