Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana, Inc., is a volunteer organization with a board of directors that oversees many of the major Mardi Gras events in Southwest Louisiana. The organization throws a month-long, family-friendly festival with many non-profit public events that focus on the heritage of Louisiana and Mardi Gras. The organization depends on corporate sponsorships, grants, and donations for its funding. Mardi Gras of Southwest Louisiana events include the Twelfth Night activities, Boat Parade, Merchants' Parade, Gumbo Cookoff, Children's Day activities and the Children's Parade, the Royal Gala, and all parades taking place on Mardi Gras day in downtown Lake Charles.
