Lakefront Promenade
The Lakefront Promenade, otherwise known as Bord du Lac Drive has something for everyone. An area that borders Lake Charles and wraps around the Lake Charles Civic Center, it is home to many annual events and festivals such as the Louisiana Pirate Festival; Red, White, Blue and You 4th of July Festival; Light Up the Lakefront during the Christmas season; and Mardi Gras.
The lake provides the perfect backdrop for evening strolls or bike rides. For romantic evenings, consider a sunset carriage ride. Visit various monuments along the lakefront at Veteran’s Memorial Park such as a WWII Patton Tank, a Vietnam Huey Helicopter and a large American flag waving majestically overhead. A short walk toward the marina will lead you passed the 9/11 Memorial which includes a slab of limestone from the Pentagon and 2 steel beams from the World Trade Center featured in a beautiful fountain.
Are the kids looking the get out some energy? Let them frolic and play to their heart’s content and your ease of mind in the gated playground area completed in the early summer of 2013. Bord du Lac Park, formerly Millennium Park, offers many fantastic amenities and activities.
Major components of Bord du Lac Park include a pirates ship; eagles nest tree house, Borealis Rex, rock climbing wall, Hazel the Steamer, an oil rig, Major General Claire Chennault Flying Tiger, Arthur Stillwell Train, Cajun cabin, maze bridge, tunnel, monkey bars, ladders, spider web, and a separate area for toddlers in the Tot Lot with Swings and Shaded Seating Area.
A rubberized surface runs throughout the playground to maximize safety, and the playground is for children of all play abilities. Don’t forget the adjacent splash park for those hot summer days! Learn more about the park here.
Did we mention this is a great place to do some fishing off the docks or just relax and feed the ducks and geese? So don’t forget to bring some bread!
