12th Annual Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest Winners
LAKE CHARLES, La. (February 3, 2020) –Visit Lake Charles recently held a community-wide Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest. Those entering ranged from school groups, clubs and organizations to residents of all ages.
Ryan Landry took home first place, and Ella Mattison was awarded second place in the Children’s Division. The first place winner in the Teen Division was Kaylin Landry.
Capturing first place in the Elementary School Division was Ms. Gillette’s class from Prien Lake Elementary School. Ms. Touchet’s class from Prien Lake Elementary landed second-place honors, and Ms. Theriot’s class, also from Prien Lake Elementary, won third place.
Ms. Donaldson’s class from Iowa Middle School took home first place in the Middle School Division.
In the Adult Division, Betty Ellender won first place followed by Kathy Heath in second place, and Debra Sullivan in third place.
The first-place winner in the Club/Organization Division was CyphaCon.
Best of Show was awarded to Betty Ellender for her creative depiction of the Krewe of Voodoo, complete with a spooky house atop the shoebox float also featuring a swamp witch, cypress trees, Spanish moss and other creepy-crawly imaginative elements.
Visitors to the welcome center can vote for their favorite shoebox float for the People’s Choice Award to be presented on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m.
