Sabor Latino - Latin Flavor

Southwest Louisiana is a melting pot of cultures, and nowhere is this more evident than in its culinary scene. The region offers an array of Latin American flavors, from authentic Mexican cuisine to creative fusions with Cajun influences.

During Hispanic Heritage Culture, we want to bring tastes of Latin America without leaving Lake Charles; these local restaurants and bakeries should be on your list.

Area 337 & Encanto Daiquiris and More

At the heart of Lake Charles’ growing Latin American food scene is Area 337, an authentic, family-owned restaurant at 710 Dr. Michael Debakey Drive in Lake Charles that not only delivers traditional Latino dishes in a welcoming atmosphere that transports you to a Caribbean island but also represents owner Gus Garden’s journey of resilience and the American Dream. Born in the Dominican Republic and later moving to Florida, Gus spent years learning the ins and outs of the restaurant industry before opening this beloved eatery, which blends Cuban, Spanish, Venezuelan, and Dominican specialties—from savory arepas and plantains to their signature molcajete served in a mortar and pestle.

Building on the success of Area 337, Garden has introduced Encanto Daiquiris and More—a fresh concept that brings Latin flavors with a Cajun twist to town. Located at 2635 Country Club Road in Lake Charles, Encanto blends vibrant Latin flavors with a spicy Cajun kick. Their signature daiquiris—made from fresh mango, passion fruit, and pina colada—are the perfect refresher on a hot day. Enjoy dishes like empanadas filled with fish stew or chicken, fried baskets of shrimp or pork belly, and a range of mouthwatering desserts like banana pound cake and molten chocolate cake. Whether you’re visiting for the drive-thru or dining inside, Encanto offers a unique dining experience for everyone.

Rosita’s Mexican Restaurant

Rosita’s Mexican Restaurant transports diners to Mexico with every bite. It first started in Sulphur in 2007 and has been serving classic dishes like Menudo and Alambre alongside tacos de nopales con huevos a la Mexicana—a unique cactus taco with Mexican-style eggs. Stop by the restaurant located at 2401 E Napoleon Street in Sulphur and Rosita's #2 in Lake Charles at 3669 5th Avenue.
