From the ballparks to the fairways, from the gridiron to the disc golf baskets, this October, Southwest Louisiana once again proves why it’s Where Champions Are Crowned. Whether you’re competing, cheering, or just taking in the atmosphere, every event promises a chance to celebrate the spirit of sports in Louisiana’s Playground.

If you know SWLA, then you know baseball never takes an off-season here. The Southwest Louisiana Perfect Game Super NIT steps up to the plate October 18-19 at Pattison Park, O.D. Johnson, and the Power Center. This elite, two-day tournament is built for top-tier talent, with competitors ages 6-14 taking the field to earn points, rack up wins, and chase prestigious titles.

But October isn’t only about baseball - softball makes its mark too. The Perfect Game Field of Screams brings teams ages 7-18 to Lake Charles, October 25-26, at the O.D. Johnson Complex. With brackets stacked and bats ready, this fall classic promises big hits and plenty of energy under the lights.

The month also tees off in style with the Louisiana’s Playground 4-Person Scramble at Mallard Golf Club on Friday, October 10. More than just a fun day on the greens, this tournament supports the growth of youth golf across Southwest Louisiana, paving the way for future champions to shine on a national stage. With an 8 a.m. shotgun start, post-round meal, and awards for top finishers, it’s one of the year’s most anticipated tournaments. Plus, it leads into next spring’s AJGA Lake Charles Junior Championship (April 2–5, 2026), further cementing the region as a hub for junior golf excellence. Of course, no October is complete without cheering on the McNeese Cowboys and Cowgirls. From women’s volleyball, soccer, and softball to the roar of Cowboy Football, there’s no shortage of action. The Cowboys will host the Southeastern Jaguars on October 4, followed by a Homecoming showdown with the Houston Christian Wildcats on October 18. Meanwhile, Cowgirl Softball launches its fall season on October 4 at Cowgirl Diamond versus Northwestern Alabama Community College, with weekday and weekend matchups rounding out the month.
